Species: HYDROXYLHERDERITE Locality: Fletcher Mine, Groton, NH Specimen Size: 4.6 cm tall specimen Field Collected: Clayton Ford - late 1950's Catalog No.: A Don Dallaire specimen and photo Notes: [dd]"I got this when Bob Whitmore & I bought Clayton's macro collection in August 1984. Should have bought the micros when he later offered those to us, but they went to a good conservator in Gordon Jackson. As far as I know Clayton sent a similar large hydroxylherderite to the Smithsonian and Bob W. also had a large one. I don't believe there were many of these real large ones but there were 100's of smaller ones. I had about 40 smaller ones up to 1 cm but only kept a few of those and sold the others some time ago. Clayton said they were in a tubular pocket that was also full of muscovite. The miners at the time hellped him out to move material around with their equipment which enabled he and his collecting partner to get this pocket." |
